NOTES
With nearly 150 years of shoemaking expertise, Moonstar has earned its reputation as a respected brand. Established in 1873 as a ‘Tabi’ maker in Kurume, Japan, the company has leveraged its deep-rooted craftsmanship to innovate. Over the years, Moonstar has evolved, maintaining exceptional quality while progressing to the iconic vulcanised rubber sole canvas sneaker.
The process behind these sneakers is a true craft. Skilled artisans hand-attach the upper to the outsole, an intricate step that machines cannot replicate. Raw, clay-like rubber is used to form the sole, and the shoes undergo the ka-ryu (vulcanising) process, which involves kiln-firing the shoes at 120°C (248°F) for 70 minutes. This process restores the rubber's natural elasticity, resulting in a flexible and durable sole, making each Moonstar shoe not only beautifully crafted but built to last.
We at Blackhorse Lane Ateliers are proud to stock Moonstar’s shoes, as they perfectly align with our commitment to quality and craftsmanship, offering timeless style that complements our ethos.
