This design was inspired by bandannas from the early 1910s to the late 1920s. During this period, patterns shifted noticeably from the ornate plains bandannas toward influences that moved from Eurocentric to Americana.

The centre motif is simple, but the 3 to 1 change in black and white gives it character. Instead of traditional bandanna motifs along the border, this piece features tattoo-style roses. The strong lines and dotted gradations bring a subtle and playful detail to the design.

It is an interesting balance of old and new ideas, blending early bandanna structure with a fresh perspective.

    The One / Two Ears Brand is the brainchild of Jonathan Lukacek who has been obsessing over bandannas for over a decade and husband and wife power duo Ryo and Hiro who make up the denim cult brand Ooe Yofukuten. 

    The partnership between three individuals is fascinating as they dig into the archives of bandanna designs from the 1890s to early 1900s and truly obsess over each detail and creative decision from the type of cotton, to how the bandannas are woven (two selvedge edges which are a play on the name of the brand). Finally the hand printing of each bandanna makes these the best bandanna's that you can find anywhere and we don't say that lightly.
